What does it mean to be a Generous RECEIVER?
Mar 14, 2023I wanna shake up your thinking today. When we talk about acts of loving generosity we often think of it in terms of giving.
Open any dictionary, look up generosity, and you’ll read, “liberal in giving or sharing; unselfish: a generous gift or free from meanness or smallness of mind or character; magnanimous.”
So last year when my coach asked me, “What would it be like to be a generous receiver?”
it intrigued me.
I started noodling on the question, “How might being a generous receiver expand my personal capacity, my capacity to build stronger relationships with myself & others, while simultaneously expanding the capacity of others?”
If the spirit of generosity and giving is so important to our human experience and provides us with such a strong helper’s high, doesn’t there need to be someone to receive just as generously?
I invite you to consider …
- Saying thank you instead of dismissing someone’s compliment or praise the next time they express appreciation
- Accepting others’ offers to help
- Asking for help
- Sharing your desires/needs with your partner and friends so they can support you in real time.
From my personal experience, too many women dismiss the compliment, refuse the offers of help, do it all themselves without asking, or only share their needs after the problem or desire has passed.
You know that feeling that lights you up when you help someone you love?
It’s incredible, right?!
Be a generous giver of that exact feeling by being a generous receiver.
Hugs,
